I woke this morning with a tickle in my throat. Ugh. A summer cold is coming, I thought. For the entire rest of the day I felt tired and achy and by late afternoon I had a terrible stomach and headache. I told the troops they were on their own for dinner and settled into Netflix.

Tensions have been running high in the Reidy house, as of late. It feels like everyone, except the children, walk around with both barrels loaded all the time. Like unspoken complaints are bubbling beneath the surface. My complaints are as follows:

  • Everyone, including the children, seems entitled to critique everything I do. Whether it’s dinner, minor scratches on car, frequency of laundry, punctuality, contents of refrigerator ect.
  • Mother never lifts a finger to do anything but unload the dishwasher. What’s the point of living with a gourmet cook who never….cooks?
  • Husband has nothing nice to say to me, or about me, unless prompted. Starting to worry that he is turning into his father and I’m going to end up married to a crabby, deaf grunter who watches baseball and FOX news all day.
  • Dinner. Fuck it, its awful. I day dream about the lecture I will give the day I retire from making it. That day is coming and I’m already rehearsing what I will say. I will call a very dramatic family meeting and drop it like it’s hot. Like it’s a hot dinner.

Feeling better now, the Advil helped but something is up. The swollen hands never lie. I wish Emily was in town cause she’s always good to whine too.

I also had my hair highlited and trimmed today. No matter what shade of blonde I ask for, it always ends up the color of buttered noodles.

It’s a weird and wonderful world out there and we here at kookyneighbor, aim to see it. Truth be told that right now, it’s just little old me here, but some day, there we be gaggles of us writing and taking pictures, bringing our unique and quirky perspective to you.
